Create a Shutdown Shortcut Windows 10 | 11
To create a Windows shutdown icon, follow these simple steps:
1. Create the Shutdown Shortcut
- Right-click on your desktop.
- Hover over New and then click Shortcut.
- In the Type the location of the item field, enter the following command:
shutdown /s /f /t 0
/s
initiates a shutdown./f
forces any open applications to close./t 0
sets the delay to 0 seconds (immediate shutdown).
- Click Next.
- Name the shortcut something like
Shutdown
, then click Finish.
2. Change the Icon (Optional)
If you want to customize the appearance of the shortcut:
- Right-click the newly created
Shutdown
shortcut and select Properties. - Under the Shortcut tab, click the Change Icon button.
- A warning may pop up. Click OK.
- Choose an icon from the list, or you can browse for your own
.ico
file if you have one. - Click OK, then Apply, and OK again to save the changes.
3. Pin to Taskbar or Start (Optional)
For easy access, you can pin the shutdown icon to the taskbar or start menu:
- Right-click on the shutdown shortcut.
- Select Show more options (if on Windows 11), then choose Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start.
