If someone is controlling your computer right now
Disconnect from the internet immediately. Turn off your Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable.
Follow these steps
These steps will help protect your information and reduce the risk of further problems.
Disconnect from the internet
Turn off your Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable. This can break an active remote connection.
Do not interact with the scammer
Do not call numbers in pop-ups, do not send money, and do not give out passwords or verification codes.
Use a different device for accounts
If your banking or other sensitive accounts may have been accessed, use a different trusted device to contact your bank and change important passwords. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) where available.
Have the computer checked
Remote-access programs such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, ScreenConnect and others can give someone control of your computer. Simply closing a window does not always remove them.
Contact CBC for help
CBC can help check your computer for remote-access software and other security concerns, and help you determine the next steps.
